Biden lies at Morehouse: The US-NATO powers are responsible for the genocide in Gaza

Following a sanctimonious and lying account of his personal history, Biden spoke briefly on the genocide in Gaza during his commencement remarks yesterday at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.

Of the protests against the Gaza genocide‌, Biden declared that he “supports peaceful, nonviolent protest. Your voices should be heard, and I promise you I hear them.”

What a cynical lie! The Biden administration has overseen the police crackdown on nonviolent protests, including 3,000 arrests.

As for voices being “heard,” Biden declared in a press conference two weeks ago that the mass opposition to the genocide would have no impact on his government’s policies.

What is happening in “Gaza and Israel is heartbreaking,” Biden said. He denounced what he called Hamas’ “vicious attack” on Israel. As for the mass slaughter of Palestinians, this was due to them being “caught in the middle” of the conflict.

In other words, Israel is absolved of all responsibility. The death of more than 45,000 Palestinians, the majority women and children, is merely the “heartbreaking” consequence, Biden implies, of the actions of the Palestinians themselves.

One day after Biden’s statement, the ICC prosecutor requested arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant, citing evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including: “Starvation of civilians as a method of warfare”; “Willfully causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or health”; “Willful killing or Murder”; “Intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population”; “Extermination and/or murder, including in the context of deaths caused by starvation.”

All of these charges could and should be leveled against Biden and other leaders of the US and NATO powers, who have armed, financed and politically justified the genocide in Gaza.

Biden’s biggest and most cynical lie was his statement that he favored an “immediate ceasefire.” As if the US has not repeatedly rejected and vetoed ceasefire resolutions. And as if it does not continue to provide Israel with the weapons used to carry out the slaughter, including the invasion of Rafah.

Just last month, Democrats and Republicans joined hands to pass $17 billion in funding for Israel. And Biden last week called for $1 billion more.

And as Biden was speaking, Israel launched an attack on central Gaza, killing 20, mainly women and children, no doubt with American bombs.

The Democrats and Republicans, the two parties of the American ruling class, and Biden personally, are fully culpable in the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
